An update and short report on the recent activities at Southbank

Joe Bagnara, president, Southbank Residents Group has
released his report of recent developments relevant to
Southbank.

Here is a summary.

The Wells Street speed humps are being installed starting
today - 30/08/09

Much discussion and lobbying about the use of the Boyd
School site. John DeWitt and his committee have been
actively involved with the City Councillors and Officers
including a presentation to their finance committee and
discussions with our Local member. It is a critical time for
this development.

Bill Stevens and he have been visiting the office of the
Ministry of Planning regarding the inappropriate
redevelopment changes to the Dorcas Street site. They will
also be discussing the recent Sturt Street application (next
door to Emergency Services) that exceeds among other
things height limitations.

Joe is being briefed by the West Gate Freeway Alliance and
the effect the works are having on nearby residents. The
information is also passed onto Dorothy LeClaire MICM as
they are the Managing Agents mostly involved.

As a member of the City Council graffiti committee he has
organised a special effort by Council staff to have a \"clean-
up\" of Southbank. This is limited to non-private buildings
for legal reasons.

Members of the committee had a briefing from the
Department of Premier and Cabinet Arts Victoria on the
proposed refurbishment of the Concert Hall and surrounds.
The committee stressed that SRGI and the residents need to
be consulted, advised and notified of all arts developments
as they represent some 15,000 prospective customers.

The Recital Hall in Sturt Street is near completion. No word
from the operators but assume following the meeting at (6)
we will be advised.

SBRG have received a number of significant donations from
Owners Corporations and/or their Managing Agents to swell
their funds . The individual response has been
disappointing.

As part of a executive/sub-committee meeting , this or
next week, they will be listing a date for the AGM. Joe will
post this to the email list and if interested in an executive or
committee role of the SRGI please let him know.

No detailed information on the new \"School\" at the old
Mercedes site on Sturt St. Not even a sketch plan - talk
about the secrecy of government - it is unbelievable when
not even our elected representative can get the information.

Supposed to be a permanent police presence on Southbank
Boulevard but no sign of that yet. Joe will keep seeking
information.

If you are not interested in receiving email information
please let Joe know and you will be removed from the list.
